✩ Bible Verses About Controlling Your Tongue:

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Proverbs 21:23 | KJV

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29 | KJV

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Proverbs 15:1 | KJV

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, [and] able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though [they be] so great, and [are] driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
James 3:2-10 | KJV

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise [is] health.
Proverbs 12:18 | KJV

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
Psalms 141:3 | KJV

Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Psalms 34:13 | KJV

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion [is] vain.
James 1:26 | KJV

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: [and] he that shutteth his lips [is esteemed] a man of understanding.
Proverbs 17:28 | KJV

In 1604, King James I of England authorized that a new translation of the Bible into English be started. It was finished in 1611, just 85 years after the first translation of the New Testament into English appeared (Tyndale, 1526). The Authorized Version, or King James Version, quickly became the standard for English-speaking Protestants. Its flowing language and prose rhythm has had a profound influence on the literature of the past 400 years. The King James Version present on this channel matches the 1987 printing. The KJV is public domain in the United States and Canada.

  5. R Francis Fawkes says:

Many Christians as well as some Ministers of the Gospel have not grasped the importance of being gentle in speech. They wrongly believe that they have the right to offend others, slander others and insult the intelligence of their congregants, as long as they are purveyors of God's word. Many are victims of spiritual pride.

In 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, Paul says, “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

They also wrongly use the passage of scripture: "Touch not mine anointed, do my prophets no harm" (Psalm 105: 15). Incidentally, there is no protection for any of them outside the anointing.

Here are some scriptural insights regarding speech.

Proverbs 15:1 — “A soft word turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Sometimes they slander members of the congregation by direct speech or by innuendo. In 1 Corinthians 6: 9 it is written: "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven." One such person is a scandal monger or reviler. He must repent (verse 11).

James 1 : 26: If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

I remember an incidence of a woman who was the object of verbal abuse from the pulpit. The Lord told her to move out of the church. The Minister was putting mouth on her. 5325
